This is a very tasty and healthy lentil puree recipe from Annabel Karmel’s Book Top 100 Baby Purees. I’m a great fan of Annabel’s recipes which are simple, easy to cook and healthy recipes for babies. I’ve bought all of her recipe books and I liked them all. I regularly cook Annabel’s recipes.
Lentils are a good cheap source of protein. They also provide iron, which is very important for brain development, particularly between the ages of 6 months and two years.

Ingredients
- Half cup finely chopped onion
- 2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped
- 2 tbsp chopped celery
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Quarter cup split red lentils
- 1 medium sweet potato (8 oz) peeled and chopped
- One and three quarters vegetable or chicken stock or water
Method
Saute the onion, carrot and celery in the vegetable oil for about 5 minutes or until softened. Add the lentils and sweet potato and pour in the stock or water. Bring to a boil, turn down the heat, and simmer, covered for 20 minutes.
Puree in a blender and it is ready to be served.
